Alice Fanari PhD

I am an Assistant Professor of Intercultural Communication in the Department of Communication at the University of Oklahoma and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Teaching Associate in the Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern University. I received my PhD in Communication and a Certificate in College Teaching from the University of Arizona and my MA/BA in Communication from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

My research interests are at the intersection of intercultural and interpersonal communication, with a particular focus on the communication practices of international sojourners. My dissertation research explores the communication practices of parents and students after the student returns home from studying abroad. I am a mixed-methods scholar employing both qualitative and quantitative research methods in my work. I am the lead author on numerous articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, including the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Journal of International Students, Journal of Family Communication, and American Journal of Qualitative Research.

I have many years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level in a variety of communication courses, including intercultural communication and public speaking.Â
